Abandoned? Exposed
One of the results of this project is an international touring event called ‘Abandoned?’ Exposed, that includes:
1. documentary screening and debate: Running alongside some of the exhibitions will be a screening of the documentary film, ‘Abandoned?’ directed by Geppe Monrós. The film will be followed by an open discussion event where experts will be invited to discuss and answer questions from the public about their experiences, solutions and views on reusing abandoned places as well as conserving them. The aim is to encourage discussion and debate on the subject of 'Abandoned?'
2. exhibition:
a) Photography by Julia Clay and Geppe Monrós on the theme of ‘Abandoned?’ will be exhibited. Besides printed photographic work there will also be touch screen digital displays where people can see a more extensive selection of their work.
b) Photography by local photographers from some of the countries visited will also be exhibited that shows how an abandoned place has changed over time.
c) 3 large format photographic montages by Julia Clay that recreate the cityscapes and landscapes of three distinct parts of Europe; Catalunya, The Balkans and Turkey using photographic studies from the journey.
3. workshops: Workshops that combine history, recycling and art, which are divided into 3 parts:
i) the history of abandoned places.
ii) the different re-use solutions of once abandoned places in Europe.
iii) In small groups the students will develop, discuss and illustrate re-use possibilities for specific abandoned buildings. Their final ideas and artwork will be exhibited online and at the workshop venue.
Each of these events has the flexibility of occurring alone or as part of the bigger ‘Abandoned? Exposed’ event.
Project ‘Abandoned?’ is also compiling a book of stories and photographs from their epic journey.
